These Digital prints stem from an interest in the role that education plays in the development of character. Children’s picture books and elementary school text books were source material for preliminary investigation and the series of eight mixed-media pieces that evolved. These were British books used to educate Caribbean children. The foreign ideals and expressions that form the narratives in these books raised questions about the development of identity and of aesthetic. They brought to mind role-play and the notion of ‘playing house’. The latter series investigates how these texts inform societal roles and value systems. The actions take place in doll house settings, and pages from the books that inform the situations have been decorated by hand, all in an attempt to re-illustrate the text.
